Laser dentistry is the use of lasers to treat any kind of dental issues. Laser dentistry is being used for conducting a wide range of treatments, ranging from simple procedures to rather complex dental procedures.
Laser dentistry is used to treat:
● Hypersensitivity● Tooth decay
● Gum disease
● Localized/ Generalised bone loss
● Teeth whitening
● Canker sore and cold sore pain treatments
● Root canal infections
● Exposing wisdom teeth.
How do Laser dentistry work?
Laser dentistry uses two main types of procedure including hard tissue and soft tissue procedures. Hard tissue is for the teeth, and soft tissue is for the gums. Laser dentistry procedure include:
Common hard tissue procedures include:● Cavity detection. Lasers can find cavities early by discovering evidence of tooth decay.
● Tooth preparations and dental fillings. Lasers can destroy bacteria in a cavity.
● Treating tooth sensitivity. Teeth sensation can be treated with dental lasers that seal tubules on the root of the tooth.
● Bone related issues in the oral cavity
Common soft tissue procedures include:
● Treating a “gummy smile.” Lasers are used to reshape gum tissue combined with “gummy smile,” in which the gums’ length covers the tooth.
● Crown lengthening. This reshapes both gum tissue and bone for a healthier structure of the tooth.
● Removing soft tissue folds. Lasers can remove soft tissue folds.
What are the benefits of Laser dentistry?
● There is potentially a reduced sutures needed with soft tissue lasers.● Bleeding is decreased in treated soft tissues, as the laser promotes clotting of blood.
● There is a low chance of bacterial infections as laser sterilizes the area.
● Wounds can heal faster, and tissue can be regenerated.
